Lie: No one can stop sinning

Fact: Eventually everyone will stop sinning, because all people die eventually.

Bible Truth:  Actually, there is more than birth, life and death.  There is a spiritual life also.  Jesus said, "unless a man is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God" --John 3:3.  This birth comes by faith in Jesus Christ and results in death to the spiritual "old man of sin".  The Scriptures teach us about a spiritual death that comes through sin and a spiritual birth that comes through the resurrection of Jesus Christ.  We are buried with Christ through baptism and raised by the power of God.--(Rom 6:4, Col 2:12)  You see, this life that God has prepared for us starts now.  For the kingdom of God is within you. --Luke 17:21

Jesus told the woman caught in adultery: "Has no one condemned you?  Neither do I condemn you, go and sin no more!" --John 8:11 (NKJV)

Jesus told the man who was an invalid for 38 years after he had been healed, "See, you are well again. Stop sinning or something worse may happen to you." --John 5:14 (NIV)

The Apostle Paul warned the Corinthians, "Do not be misled: 'Bad company corrupts good character.' Come back to your senses as you ought, and stop sinning; for there are some who are ignorant of God--I say this to your shame." --1 Cor. 15:33-34 (NIV)

We are given a beautiful witness from God as to what the Christian life is in Romans 6 of the Bible.  Do you know what leads up to Romans 6:23?  "¹⁵ What then? Shall we sin because we are not under law but under grace? Certainly not! ¹⁶Do you not know that to whom you present yourselves slaves to obey, you are that one's slaves whom you obey, whether of sin leading to death, or of obedience leading to righteousness? ¹⁷But God be thanked that though you were slaves of sin, yet you obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine to which you were delivered. ¹⁸And having been set free from sin, you became slaves of righteousness. ¹⁹I speak in human terms because of the weakness of your flesh. For just as you presented your members as slaves of uncleanness, and of lawlessness leading to more lawlessness, so now present your members as slaves of righteousness for holiness.
²⁰For when you were slaves of sin, you were free in regard to righteousness. ²¹What fruit did you have then in the things of which you are now ashamed? For the end of those things is death. ²²But now having been set free from sin, and having become slaves of God, you have your fruit to holiness, and the end, everlasting life. ²³For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord." --Rom. 6:15-23 (NIV)

The real question is not whether a person can stop sinning.  For someone who truly loves God will want to stop sinning because they know that sin displeases God and results in destruction to self and others.  The real question is, "Do you believe God or man?" and "Do you love God?"  The carnal man says, "I can't stop sinning".  But God says, "stop sinning or something worse will happen to you than physical illness or pain".  Jesus said, "do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul.  But rather fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell." --Matt 10:28  So humble yourself and turn to Jesus Christ whom God sent to bless you by turning you from sin and wickedness.  May he bring peace and healing to your soul!
